Whether it is maintaining academic integrity, looking out for the people I love, or employing ethical practices in training AI, I think it is critically important to remember why I do what I do, not just what it is I have to do. Sometimes, this might mean missing out on a high-paying job opportunity. Sometimes, it means that things will take a lot longer than intended. In my 32 years, I've come to realize that no matter the outcome, the thing that has the biggest impact on my happiness is knowing that my energy was directed in a positive direction. Success and failure are often outside the scope of our control. However, when you follow your heart, even your failures wind up being the stepping stones to the future you believe in.
